BDCs Summer Workshop is for committed dancers ages 11+, who are looking for spend a week on focused training. Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in training daily with ballet technique, contemporary, and choreography composition. Faculty will include guests David Arce and Aylssa Myers.

What is offered at the camp

- Variations
- Choreography Composition - Each day dancers will gather and explore different methods of creating their own work. The dancers will be provided the tools to create phrases on peers and practice designing sequences of movement that will build each day into a short work at the end of the week.
- Free in studio performance for friends and family at the end of the week.

HOw it works

- The remaining $475 is due August 1st
- Watch your email for placement and schedule.
- Dress code - Option 1 any leotard, pink or flesh tone tights with corresponding ballet shoes (black footless tights or shorts for contemporary). Option 2 White or black dance shirt, Black convertible tights with corresponding ballet shoes.
- Dancers will need to bring a sack lunch, plenty of water for the day, and their energy. Dancers placed in the intermediate level will need a yoga mat for Pilates.
- The workshop is split into two groups based on age and skill. Placement will come out in an email prior to the camp.

David Arce
David Arce born in San Diego, California, began his training at Ballet Yuma with Jon Cristofori and Kathleen Sinclair. He then danced with San Francisco Ballet for 13 seasons, Artistic Director of Juline Regional Youth Ballet for 10 seasons, Assistant Artistic Director of Mid-Columbia Ballet for 2 seasons, Trainee Program Director at Ballet Idaho, and currently teaching/coaching/choreographing in the D.C. area. His list of accomplishments with the San Francisco Ballet include principal and soloist roles in Balanchine, Robbins, Forsythe, MacMillan, Martins, Morris, de Mille, Petit, Ratmansky, Caniparoli, Tomasson, Kudelka, Welch, Wheeldon, Adam, Possokhov, York, and Lubovich. Additionally, he has performed throughout the world with San Francisco Ballet and independently at many galas, festivals, and international ballet competitions in Asia and Europe. Mr. Arce has taught master classes, coached, and choreographed domestically and abroad including Japan, China, Malaysia, Arizona, California, Idaho, Mississippi, New York, Washington State, the Washington Ballet in D.C., BYU, University of the Pacific, Modesto Junior College, University of Mississippi, George Mason University, and numerous RDA/P and Ballet Alliance festivals, winning the Best New Choreography award in 2022. Alyssa Myers (she/her)
Alyssa is a choreographer, dancer, and leadership professional passionate about fostering collaborative and inclusive artistic experiences. She is the director of (All)Ways Dance Company, which focuses on creating meaningful work that bridges performance, exploration, and dialogue. Originally from Yuma, Arizona, Alyssa trained at Yuma Ballet Academy and performed with Ballet Yuma as a pre-professional member. She earned her BFA in Dance from the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance in 2020, where she performed works by renowned choreographers, including William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Azure Barton, George Balanchine, and Crystal Pite. During her time at USC, she worked closely with influential mentors such as Thomas McManus, Fiona Lummis, and Bret Easterling. Alyssa’s choreography “Undoing,” created for Ballet Yuma, received a Choreography Recognition Award at the 2024 Ballet Alliance Festival. She has collaborated with a wide range of organizations, including MOVE|NYC|, Falco Dance, Utah Metropolitan Ballet, Traverse City Dance Project, Terre Dance Collective, and Columbia City Jazz Company. In 2022, she joined Jodie Gates for an NYU residency to explore themes of identity and inclusivity in ballet and was awarded a Converge2Emerge Fellowship to create the immersive performance *LENS|Beta.* In 2023, Alyssa was an inaugural fellow and project manager with NVA & Guests and has continued to perform and create with Robert Rubama's Terre Dance Collective. Alongside her artistic career, Alyssa is a Senior Associate at 3 Summits Leadership, where she specializes in leadership development, team cohesion, and communication strategies. Her interest in conflict resolution and feedback shapes her work, bringing thoughtful perspectives to both the arts and professional development. Through movement workshops, performances, and open dialogues, Alyssa aims to inspire others to reach new levels of creative expression, understanding, and connection. |
